When we’re feeling overstimulated, it’s easy to want a quick fix—especially in a world that moves this fast. But, like most things, properly winding down comes from the little habits you build over time.
1. Set The Mood
Ensuring your space reflects the energy you want to feel is so important, for me that means no clutter, lighting a candle and cracking the window open a little to refresh my room.
2. Brew a Herbal Tea
This might be a bit specific, but as someone who struggles with anxiety, I’ve had evenings filled with dread and overwhelming nerves. A chamomile tea or a good night-time blend has made such a difference in helping me relax. There’s something about a hot drink that’s instantly comforting, and with the added benefits of herbal teas, it’s a must-have in my evening routine.
3. Skin & Bodycare - but Indulge in it
I used to find taking off my makeup and sticking to a skincare routine such an effort—if I’m honest, it was pure laziness on my part. But once I found the right products and slowed things down, everything changed. Using the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm and massaging it in with Gua Sha techniques, I genuinely felt a difference. It’s like I could physically feel myself winding down, washing away the stresses of the day.
4. Deep Stretch
We carry so much stress and tension in our bodies, especially around the neck and shoulders. You don’t need a long, fancy massage routine—just five minutes of simple yoga stretches can help release built-up tension and leave you feeling lighter. You don't want to be tossing and turning when trying to get to sleep, so a deep release really helps.
5. Disconnect & Read
Phone down, tv off. There is truth to disconnecting from our screens at night, even though it can be hard to in this modern day, making the effort, even in small ways, is so important. What has helped me to do so, is reading. Honestly, reading has completely become my life again and I'm not complaining. It's the perfect way to escape reality, it's healthier for you and also helps you go to sleep.
